How does scoring work in casual pickleball?

Most drop-in games use side-out scoring to 11, win by 2; some groups use rally scoring — agree before the first serve.
Only the serving side scores in classic side-out scoring. Rally scoring awards points on every rally to whichever side wins it — faster games. Tournament play follows the governing body rulebook; public courts vary by host.
